What is HBV?
Hepatitis B virus is a DNA virus of the genus Orthohepadnavirus, of the family Hepadnaviridae (abbreviated as HBV).
HBV belongs to a type of virus with high viability and high risk of transmission through different routes such as mother-to-child, sexual transmission, and blood transfusion. Currently, there are 400 million people living with chronic HBV in the world, of which 75% are in Asia. Especially, Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest HBV infection rate in the world: 15-20%, equivalent to 10-14 million infected people.
Why test for HBV?
After a person is infected with HBV, it will live in the blood and liver of the infected person. Over time, chronic hepatitis can cause serious health problems such as liver damage, liver failure, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer, leading to death.
Because of the serious impact on health and the high risk of transmission, each of us needs to have timely prevention and treatment measures by vaccination from an early age and frequently take HBV testing.
Common HBV Tests
There are many different types of hepatitis B tests available, and each test has its own use and purpose, including tests such as:
- Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)
- Antibodies against hepatitis B virus (anti-HBs)
- Antibodies against HBV core antigens
- Hepatitis B virus e antigen (HBeAg)
- Test for HBeAB
- Hepatitis B virus (HBV-DNA) assay.
Solutions ABT provides
To be able to determine the actual amount of virus in the patient’s body to help doctors assess the stage of hepatitis B virus infection and provide appropriate treatment solutions, ABT has built and developed a test kit using Real-time PCR method to measure the viral load.
