Introduction
Babesia disease is caused by the Babesia parasite that leads to blood infections in dogs. The disease is transmitted through cross-contamination or by direct transmission through bites or blood transfusions. The incubation period is two weeks and there are no signs of symptoms when infected. The Babesia parasite infects and grows in red blood cells, leading to anemia and a weakened immune system. When sick, dogs often have symptoms of anorexia, pale gums, fever, jaundice, weight loss, affecting the pet’s condition and health.
TopSPEC® BABESIA qPCR KIT is a test kit based on Real-time PCR method that allows accurate quantification and rapid detection of the causative agent of Babesiosis on whole blood samples. The average time for detection is 2 hours. The kit combines a new generation Taq Polymerase technology and an optimized buffer system with enhanced substances to improve the efficiency and sensitivity of the reaction. In addition, during extraction or mixing, exogenous controls can be added to avoid false negatives and manipulation errors.
