Introduction
Hepatopancreatic Parvovirus (HPV) is a DNA-structured virus that causes hepatopancreatic disease in shrimp. The disease was first detected in the US and then spread to Malaysia, Taiwan in 1987-1988. Infected shrimp will have symptoms such as anorexia, white faeces, slow and inactive, and scattered deaths. When dissected, the liver is reduced or necrotic, the abdominal muscles are opaque, and often die in the larval stage, the mortality rate is around 50-100%. HPV can cause shrimp death during the first month after stocking, however, many studies also show that HPV-infected shrimp will be smaller in size than normal shrimp. The disease has no specific treatment, so early prevention and detection play an important role in minimizing loss for shrimp farmers.
“ TopSPEC® HPV qPCR KIT (SQS-162) is a test kit based on Real-time PCR method that allows fast and accurate detection of HPV agent in shrimp. The kit has the advantages of specificity, high sensitivity, endogenous control help ensure the extraction process or master mix. “
