INTRODUCTION
Parvo disease in pigs, also known as “Wood fetus” disease, reduces fertility in sows because the virus can kill embryos and fetuses. The virus survives in secretions and waste and is transmitted by respiratory or oral routes. Although male pigs show no signs of being affected by the virus, infected males can transmit the disease through mating with females. Infected sows usually do not show clinical signs. The disease occurs mainly in herds of parvovirus seronegative sows that have been exposed to the virus through the oral-nasal route during the first half of pregnancy. Although the disease does not cause death, it will affect reproductive health and newborn babies.
TopSPEC® PPV qPCR Kit is designed to detect the presence of the Parvo PPV virus in herd and culture environments. Early detection will be the most effective risk prevention measure for farmers. In addition, during extraction or mixing, exogenous controls can be added to limit false negatives and manipulation errors.
